Homeowner Festive Season Checklist

There’s nothing worse than your festive season being interrupted with avoidable issues cropping up in your property, making it a very unpleasant experience for both you and the guests.

As we approach the extremely busy festive season, where most of your bookings are back-to-back, NOW is the time to ensure your property is ready and all niggles are sorted out.

Many contractors and service providers are getting fully booked for November and many of them close early December – leaving us with about 4 weeks to get everything done.

Here’s a checklist of essential items we need to get sorted before 1st December.

1. Service all air conditioners.

It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to do this over the festive season which is when guests need it most.

2. Refill gas bottles and have back-ups.

It’s nearly impossible to find gas suppliers over the festive season.

3. Ensure all braais are working properly.

An essential amenity over the festive season.

4. Book any required contractor related work NOW.

Contractors will soon be fully booked and often close early in December so get them booked now.

5. Fix all the niggles.

Loose door handles, paint touch-ups, grouting in showers, minor leaks, loose shower doors, etc.

6. Replace all light bulbs not working and buy backups if you don’t have some already.

We recommend rechargeable battery light bulbs that will stay on for a few hours during load shedding (find an example here).

On that note.

Being prepared for load shedding is a massive differentiator driving more bookings as your property will often be the preferred, if not the most obvious choice.

In order to do this, we recommend getting an inverter installed to power those essential items: lights, fridges, WIFI and TVs. No need for candles or battery powered lights that can easily go missing. Perhaps this is something to look at in the New Year.

If you would like us to assist you with any of the above items, if we’re not already, please let us know.
